My language learning journey

Even before English became a subject in school, I got to learn some English words through -you guessed it, video games. E ven when I didn’t fully understand what was going on, it helped me start recognizing common words and phrases. At the time, I didn’t even think of it as learning. It was just part of the fun, and that made it easier to absorb the language naturally.   Looking back, I think the most important part of learning a new language is your own interest and motivation. If you actually want to learn something , it becomes easier, even when it’s challenging. The second key thing , for me at least is consistency. D oing a little bit every day adds up over time. I find there ’ s no need to spend hours studying but just stay ing connected to the language regularly makes a big difference .   Finally, something that really helped me and I still believe it’s super effective is surrounding yourself with the language as much as possible, even if you can’t...

Chapter Review: Don’t Make Me Think! – Chapter 1

In Don’t Make Me Think! (2005), Steve Krug explores the importance of usability in web design. The first chapter introduces his First Law of Usability: "Don’t make me think!" This means that websites should be designed so that users can understand them instantly, without unnecessary effort. Krug argues that when a site is too complicated or unclear, it frustrates users and can even make them blame themselves for not understanding it. Small details play a significant role in making a website intuitive and easy to navigate.   I initially chose this book somewhat by chance. It wasn’t my first choice, but after struggling to find other books in the online library, I came across this one. The title caught my attention, and although I wasn’t sure what to expect, I soon realized that the topic was both relevant and interesting. As someone who hadn’t thought much about web usability before, this chapter opened my eyes to the importance of good design .   What stood out to me t...

Time Well Spent: The Best Advice I Ever Received

The Narrative During one lunch break in high school, I was eating with a friend. Since school had bec o me much more challenging than before, I started to  question my own time use and what would be the best for my future.   I used to spend nearly all my free time playing video games , other than going to school, studying, or hanging out with friends. I constantly doubted whether I should be doing something else and began to feel like I was wasting my time instead of doing something truly productive. I guess an argument can be made that the other hobbies aren’t necessarily any better. Playing sports or an instrument doesn’t create value for the greater good of humanity, they’re simply ways to spend time. That’s a rather blunt way to put it, and of course, it depends on context. I guess the difference lies in the potential negative traits or habits that gaming can cultivate. Perhaps the most obvious drawback is addiction. Of course, one can become addicted to sport...

My Journey into Computer Science and Blogging

Introduction Hello there! I'm a university student with a strong passion for information systems and technology. Last year, I officially began studying computer science, and it has been an exciting journey so far.    For the longest time I have been fond of computers and all that there is to them. All the way from middle school, computer classes or some of the math classes that had something to do with coding or the basics of the theory behind it were always my favorite. That’s why it was very easy for me to decide where to apply after graduating high school.    Looking back, I always wished there had been more coding-related courses available in school. I di d consider learning to code as a hobby, but schoolwork was enough work on its own. My interest never faded, so I decided to just wait until I applied for a university since I was planning on applying for this field anyway.     My i nterests in t echnology and g aming   Video games have alw...
