My language learning journey

Even before English became a subject in school, I got to learn some English words through-you guessed it, video games. Even when I didn’t fully understand what was going on, it helped me start recognizing common words and phrases. At the time, I didn’t even think of it as learning. It was just part of the fun, and that made it easier to absorb the language naturally.

Looking back, I think the most important part of learning a new language is your own interest and motivation. If you actually want to learn something, it becomes easier, even when it’s challenging. The second key thing, for me at least is consistency. Doing a little bit every day adds up over time. I find theres no need to spend hours studying but just staying connected to the language regularly makes a big difference.

Finally, something that really helped me and I still believe it’s super effective is surrounding yourself with the language as much as possible, even if you can’t understand everything yet. Whether it’s watching shows, playing games, or listening to music, just hearing the language used in real situations trains your brain to recognize patterns. It helps you get used to the rhythm, sounds, and common expressions, and over time, you start to understand more and more without even realizing it.

If I had to give advice to future ECIP students or classmates, I’d say: don’t worry about being perfect. Make mistakes, ask questions, and use English outside of class. Even a little bit every day helps. Find something you enjoy in English, like a show or a game. It keeps learning fun and low-pressure.

After this course, I plan to continue improving by consuming more English content and using English in social media or chats whenever I can. I might also keep writing short texts or reflections in English to stay in practice.

In the future, I think strong communication skills will be very helpful. Effective written and spoken communication will be especially useful for writing emails, participating in meetings, and delivering presentations. Being able to express myself clearly and confidently in English will definitely help me in both studies and work.

Overall, learning English has been a long but rewarding journey. I’ve learned that progress doesn’t happen overnight, but with interest, consistency, and a bit of creativity, it definitely does happen. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey and using everything I’ve learned in real-life situations in the future.

  1. Not trying to be perfect is a good point. Most people will make mistakes and the most important thing is that you understand each other. And if you enjoy the activity which is the means of learning, it makes it much more effective too.
